The movie opens with a scene that resembles the end to a romantic comedy, with the happy couple skipping off into the sunset. This sets the stage for a cute young love story, but instead the couple is ripped apart by war. Squirrels in a sad marriage to a man that took advantage of her when she was in need of someone to hold her up. Why does the movie open with such a loving scene of this couple just to tear them apart? Do you think this had something to do with support for the party?

You bring up a good question here. To me, a gentle and happier opening like this helps reinforce the idea that war ruins everything. One minute everything is fine and everyone is happy. When war strikes, everything has the potential to be torn apart.
I agree with Christian! The cuteness sets you up to get invested in the story. He doesn’t think he will have to go and it is hard to think about. Then of course, everything sucks and its hard to bring yourself to acknowledge it and have hope.
I agree with Christian. It starts off showing the couple and how happy they are and then it shows how fast everything got torn apart. I think it started it off with a loving scene so it could pull you in it and then everything just gets ripped away because of the war.
